Emergency Preparedness

The City of Seldovia resides in Seldovia Bay on the south side of Kachemak Bay approximately 25 miles from Homer, Alaska. As a coastal community tsunamis generated by earthquakes are always a potential risk.

An updated All-Hazard Mitigation Plan for the City of Seldovia was approved by FEMA in the spring of 2018. The updated plan includes the Alaska Earthquake Center's newly revised tsunami study and inundation maps for the Seldovia area and can be viewed in the links below or at the city office.

In the case of a natural disaster, such as an earthquake or tsunami, Seldovia's Emergency Shelter is Susan B. English School.

The City of Seldovia is working in conjunction with the State of Alaska to become TsunamiReady. A Tsunami Evacuation Map and Safety Tips Brochure for the community of Seldovia is available to view in the links below, as well as at the city office, harbormaster's office, and other various places around town.
